MINED MISTAKES

Recently, we introduced you to Kofi Holmes Attivor, aka Mined, the alt-electronica newcomer whose leading EP single ‘Mistakes’ is a dreamy assemblage of melancholic, lovelorn synthetic keys and pan vocals. Now, the London artist’s debut has a video, directed by Northampton filmmakers The Rest who are mostly known for their arresting work with Kojey Radical. The directoral duo tap into the constant rhythm of ‘Mistakes’ and translate it into continuous physical movement, whether that’s entrancing dance performances or the ever-changing camera angles. The wordless interaction and expressionless faces of the protagonists tell the story at the heart of Mined’s song, the breakdown of a relationship; they’re going through the motions, but at the risk of their own happiness, even causing pain as is the case with the male counterpart. What’s really interesting is the slowed-down tempo of the last half of ‘Mistakes’, compared to the original, which is then drenched in a red warning-light, signalling the end, not only of The Rest’s beautiful video, or the song, but of the relationship too. Speaking on the video, Kofi Holmes Attivor says, “[The Rest] did a great job of capturing the claustrophobic and intense nature of the experiences I sing about on 'Mistakes' [...] working closely with them and the dancers to interpret a song and story that is very close to my heart, was a real privilege." - HT
